I would love to be able to sit down as a family every morning and eat a wholesome breakfast while we chat about the day to come, but this isn’t 1953. This is REALITY and that just doesn’t happen in our house. Between getting my coaching work and my workout in, then getting the kids up, dressed and fed, then getting myself ready for work while Mr Awesome gets the kids’ lunches and gets them off to school, our mornings are pretty chaotic. I don’t have time to sit and eat a leisurely breakfast.

My morning go-to is my shake. It’s fast to make and packed with nutrients that keep my energy up and keep my cravings down. Plus I can make it and run out the door to work if I’m short on time. Although drinking it at red lights is a bit of a challenge when you get near the bottom and have to tip the cup waaaaaay up…

So what do I put in it? I finally found a shake powder that has exactly what I was looking for – it’s an awesome source of protein, with amazing nutritious ingredients that make it WAY more than just a protein shake. I used to use a whey protein powder that we bought at Costco but was always hungry by 10am, and hadn’t noticed any true benefits. When I switched over to Shakeology to see if there was a change, the difference was NOTICEABLE. I had more energy throughout the day, I was fuller longer, my cravings for sweets were gone, and I just felt BETTER. My always-a-problem nails got stronger. My skin got better. Seriously, EVERYTHING.

When I use the vanilla flavour I sometimes switch up the other ingredients add in, to vary the flavour. Sometimes it’s like I make in the video below, and sometimes I go tropical and throw in some frozen pineapple and coconut oil. It really depends on the day. 1/2 tsp of instant coffee can make you a frappuccino, or 1/2 cup orange juice can make it taste like an orange creamsicle!

Here is my basic recipe most mornings:

  • 1 scoop Vanilla Shakeology powder
  • 1/2 banana
  • 1 tbsp natural almond butter
  • 1/2 cup cashew milk
  • ice and 8oz water

Sometimes I add in some frozen berries, but that basically means I have no fruit servings left for the rest of the day. It was only when I started the portion control eating plan that I realized that a medium banana is actually TWO servings of fruit. THAT was a disappointing discovery, but explained why I had been struggling to move the scale.

So that’s it – one of the things I do every day to both save time and make sure I am set up for an awesome day with a good reserve of energy.
